Mole Removal

What is a Mole?
A Mole, or naevus, is a normal skin growth that develops when pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) grow in groups. Moles can appear in a range of different colours, shapes and sizes.
Moles are common and normal and can appear raised or flat. However, they can appear as small, dark marks, or sometimes flesh-coloured small bumps, on your skin. Therefore it is extremely important to have your moles checked by your GP if they change in any way. Certain moles can become cancerous. In most cases any changes are age related and nothing to worry about. Mole Removal is an extremely popular treatment here at Persona. Unfortunately the NHS will not remove a mole for cosmetic purposes.
How do we remove Moles?
Moles are removed in 1 of 2 ways.
Surgical slice: This is when the moles are literally sliced off the skin. Therefore no stitches are required with this procedure and any scarring is usually very minimal.
Surgical excision: In this procedure the mole is cut out of the skin. This is done in the case a mole being deeper in the skin. Stitches are required and they may be a small scar. These moles are often sent to the laboratory for testing.
