Thread Veins

What are Thread Veins

Thread veins and broken blood vessels on the face, chest and legs become more obvious when we age. This occurs when collagen in the skin weakens, resulting in the vein staying open, increasing blood flow to the area which causes the visible fine red and purple veins.

These tiny visible veins have a red, bluish or purple colour and can appear quite unsightly. Thread veins can occur in small areas, some can become raised and more prominent in colour, or  can cover larger areas of the skin, especially on the legs. For some of us these thread veins become so visible that they feel the need to permanently wear long skirts, thick tights or trousers in the attempt to disguise and hide the condition.

Broken blood vessels can also be seen all over the body, especially on the face and chest area, resulting in small red dots which for some can resemble tiny little blood blisters.

Most clients seeking treatment for thread veins and broken blood vessels are looking to eliminate the visible appearance and redness for a clearer complexion.

The most common areas of concerns are:

  • face and chest
  • upper legs and calves
  • ankles & other areas of the body

How we treat Thread Veins

Thermolysis, also known as short wave diathermy. Using a high frequency electrical current, it diminishes thread veins and broken blood vessels. However this treatment is predominantly used on the face.  It is gently inserted into the vessel using a hair thin probe. Electrical current is then passed through it. This coagulates the blood supply. Consequently weakening and destroying the vessel wall. In short, it will then be absorbed by the body. The effects are immediate and permanent.
