Lipoma Removal

What is a Lipoma?

Lipoma are benign fatty growths which can occur anywhere on the body. Therefore this form of growth can appear in various sizes. Lipoma is not seen as life threatening, but can often cause discomfort or embarrassment for people with obvious growths. They commonly grow in the fatty layers of the skin,  they can generally be found on the neck, chest, shoulders, back, arms and thighs. Lipoma can sometimes grow inside of the body, and you may not be aware they are there.

How do we remove lipoma at Persona?

Lipomas are surgically removed under local anaesthetic via an incision to the skin to cut out and remove the lipoma. The area will then be stitched and dressed and you will be required to return to the clinic to have the stitches removed 1-2 weeks later.

Why choose Persona.

At Persona Medical Aesthetics, we believe in taking a personal yet professional approach.  During your free consultation, we will advise on the removal process and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions and go through any details you are not sure about.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Lipoma Removal at Persona

  • Will I need stitches?
Yes. Your wound will be stitched and dressed. You must keep this clean and dry until the stitches are removed ( about 1 week later). Dissolvable stitches can take anywhere between 2 - 8 weeks to fully dissolve and heal.
  • What to expect after treatment?
You can bath or shower after 48 hours but do not put the wound directly under the flow of water and replace the dressing if required. If the dressings fall off, clean the wound and dab dry, do not rub, and reapply a clean dressing. Once the stitches have been removed apply Vaseline to the wound for the next 4 weeks. If at any point the wound becomes red, inflamed or is weeping, please contact the clinic or your GP if it has not been possible to reach us.
  • What to avoid after treatment?
Abstain from any strenuous exercise and pressure on the wound so as to not disrupt the stitches.
Avoid any excessive heat ie saunas until the stitches have been removed and you have been advised further. Do not pick any scabs or dry skin.
